Outlook 2025

Central Visayas was the fastest-growing economy among the regions of the country in 2023, growing by 7.3% and contributing 6.6% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product. Cebu’s strategic location, sound infrastructure, robust tourism, manufacturing, business process outsourcing and real estate sectors are key drivers to the economic growth not only of the province but also of the region.

Local business leaders say that 2025 is an opportunity for Cebu to thrive. It will be a year to adapt, innovate and shape a brighter economic future. WOFEX is happy to hear this, as for the past 18 years of staging WOFEX Visayas, we have been doing what we can to bring business and learning opportunities to help and support the F&B industry in the region. This year, we are excited to be bringing with us top local brands, as well as global brands from Spain, Brazil, Japan, Malaysia and more to showcase their premium products. Recognizing the importance of Cebu as a center of trade and distribution not only in the Visayas but extending up to Mindanao, our exhibitors are excited at the prospect of meeting and doing business in the region.

“Best Pig…Ever!”

That, was Anthony Bourdain’s famous endorsement of Cebu lechon in his show, No Reservations. He clearly enjoyed Cebu’s famous roasted pig which historians say was first made by lechoneros in Talisay City in the 1920s. The pig is seasoned with a combination of herbs and spices then slow roasted over live coals until the skin is crisp and the meat juicy, tender and flavorful.

Cebu’s lechon is truly unique – not just in taste and in the absence of lechon sauce but in the way each lechon maker has put his own mark in its preparation and cooking. You must also try the lechon belly version – this came about when lechoneros noticed the belly was the part that disappeared rather quickly, next to the crisp skin, of course.

Here’s an idea for your next trip to the Lechon Capital of the World:  Go on a lechon crawl. Make a list of the famous places that serve the best lechon, from market stalls to community eateries and restaurants, and eat your way to meat bliss. But, do so in moderation and savor the feast with a drink or two!
